I've searched both hard drives for this file name, and neither of the drives (old or new) can locate this file. The File Not Found error that appears makes no indication of what application is looking for what file. I'm not sure if the vmsn file is something that is actually resident on the hard drive, or part of the image. I purchased an enclosure for my old hard drive and compared the files from my former hard drive to the ones that are on my existing drive, and they all appear to be the same. The root cause I think can be found in the osx system log: /var/log/system.log Symptoms Your virtual machine does not start You see one of these errors: File not found: virtual machine name-Snapshot.vmsn. Everything was working fine even after the 10.9.2 upgrade and then all of a sudden, I get internal error and can't start it up.
